Tremendous weekend in Portland

Well, I’m gonna be honest, Portland is such a unique city which pleased me more than I had expected. It was absolutely refreshing to visit this city. It is a perfect place to hangout, food carts everywhere, lots of microbreweries, coffeehouses, with many beautiful bridges across the city. People are mostly seen cycling or running around the parks.

I fell in love the instant I saw Tom McCall Waterfront Park. It’s  a huge park built along the river side and bridges on the corner. We took advantage of lovely weather and rented a deuce coupe tricycle from Waterfront Bicycle Rental Service and we cycled around the park and over the bridges. It was the ride to die for. :)

It’s a paradise for cyclist as you can see in below pic we are 461’st cyclist that day.

 

Post ride, we went to The Nines’s Departure, Asian-fusion rooftop lounge to have dinner. It is a must visit restaurant in Portland. It was perfect to experience happening night life of Portland.

Trip to Oregon is not complete until you see the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. It has the most scenic drive and has lots of waterfalls. Give yourself plenty of time to drive on weekends as there are tons of tourists on road. It was damn crowded and parking was a nightmare. Finally we got a spot after spending hours in our car.

So eventually we reached our destination Multnomah Falls which was the first of many stops we took to checkout along this scenic area.

 

It was gorgeous and the bridge in the middle looks very pretty. It was easily accessible. First viewpoint is at the base of waterfall and there is a hike of 10 mins to reach up-to the bridge to take a closer look.

Next, we stopped by Horsetail Falls. It’s a great place that thin out the crowd a little. At the bottom of falls, there is a plunge pool where you can sit on rocks, enjoy the view and chill out. If you want you can swim too. 🙂

Our next and the most exciting stop of the day – Oneonta Gorge Falls. It is actually a hidden treasure that you have to see to believe. This was the most unique hike I have ever done so far. If you plan to hike through this falls, be prepared to get wet.

It’s a bit of adventure to see this waterfall. It is surrounded by steep vertical-walled cliffs and there is plunge pool in between those cliffs. You have to go through chest-deep water to reach to the waterfall and is totally worth it!!!!!

 

First thing is you have to climb these logjam to see the waterfall. It was super-fun to trek over pile of broken tress and then get ready to wade through deep water.

Our last stop of the day was Rowena Crest view point before going back to hotel. There are scenic views from every turn you make. If you are coming from Portland (or just from the west) on the 84 you will see many winding roads, worth a stop to look around.

Last thing : Don’t  forget to eat these delectable doughnuts at the Blue Star and satisfy your dessert cravings!!!

Long queue was worth the wait for these Passion-fruit and blueberry donuts.
